Carlos Frevo founder, artistic director, dance teacher

Carlos Frevo, born Carlos da Silva, is a qualified dancer. Born in Pernambuco, Brazil he has been working as a dancer, dance instructor & choreographer since 1996. Influenced by the diverse culture of Brazil, he possesses an extensive repertoire of traditional Brazilian dances: frevo, maracatu, coco, samba, afro-brazilian dance and forró.

He began his education in traditional dance at the age of 12 years in the “Tax Dance Company”, “Maje Mole”, “Darue Malungo” as well as “Cia Terapia Dança de Salão”. He also took classes with the great Frevo-master Meia Noite. In 2000 he began his education in modern dance in the “Company Experimental de Dança”.

Since 2004 Carlos Frevo is living and working in Berlin, Germany. He is constantly improving his dance technique. From 2005-2012 he took lessons in capoeira angola with Mestre Rosalvo dos Santos and in 2007 Carlos Frevo starts to study jazz dance with Sara Alves de Souza. He studies the basic percussion rhythms of Brazilian music and has been performing already with several Brazilian artists on the stage.

These experiences, on the one hand in the traditional Brazilian dance and on the other hand, in contemporary dance and his 13-year teaching experience in Berlin has influenced Carlos Frevo. Over the years, he developed it into a unique teaching technique with which he can teach Europeans Brazilian dances in a healthy and thoughtful way, without physical injury. His goal is that you don't only learn to dance skillfully, but also into old age.

Carlos Frevo is giving workshops at numerous international festivals, including the Netherlands, France, Portugal, England, Spain, Austria, Brazil and Germany. He also gave workshops in Poland at the Contemporary Dance Festival "Dancing Poznań" in 2011 and 2012 and he was two times guest dancer at "Grupo Oito" in the dance piece "Dance for Sale" dancing modern dance and frevo.

In 2006 Carlos Frevo formed his own dance group called “Locomotiva do Frevo” and acted as a choreographer for the group till 2015. In 2016 he formed the "Carlos Frevo Dance Company" and started working on a new project combining different styles of dance.

As founder and artistic director, from 2012 to 2017 he gained a great international reputation with the "Tanzstudio Dança Frevo" and also made known the rich culture of Brazil beyond the borders of the country.

He is currently working as a dance teacher and musician with "Dança Frevo Cultural Events" and also regularly organizes Brazilian concerts and two dance festivals each year.

Anja founder, managing director

Anja discovered her passion for dancing early. From the age of 10, she danced in various child dance groups, moved to jazz dance as a teenager until she discovered the Brazilian dance 15 years ago. Since then, she has been extensively involved with the northeastern Brazilian culture and traveled to Recife (Pernambuco), where she was allowed to experience the dances live.

In the dance group "Locomotiva do Frevo" she danced 2008-2015 under the direction of Carlos Frevo and learned traditional dances of Brazil: Frevo, Maracatu, Samba and Forró. Together with Carlos she founded the "Tanzstudio Dança Frevo", which she ran from 2012 to 2017.

Now she is involved with "Dança Frevo Cultural Events" for the Brazilian culture. She organizes the dance lessons of Carlos Frevo, dance workshops, concerts and two dance festivals annually.
