The dance of the Coco exists on the coast and in the inland Pernambucos in numerous variations: "Coco-de-roda", "coco-de-embolada", "coco-de-praia "," coco-do-sertão "," coco-de-umbigada ". The dance has besides the African also Indian (Tupi) roots and depending on the region it is adapted to taste of the local population.
The rhythm of the Coco is played with four instruments Ganzà, Surdo, Pandeiro and Triângulo. The characteristic sound of the Coco is generated with the tender ramming of the feet with the "Tamancos" (wooden sandals). The rhythm is also underlined by the clapping hands of the actors.
